The Pivotal CurriculumBehaviour management training should not be just a one-off event. To achieve sustainable impact and real behaviour change you need to have internal capacity for behaviour support and training. The Pivotal Curriculum is a behaviour ‘Train the Trainers’ programme that will enable your in-house Instructor to deliver outstanding behaviour training at the time that you most need it.

Through the Pivotal Curriculum we improve your internal expertise in behaviour, anger, safeguarding, mental health, and inclusion and we develop your internal capacity for staff training, coaching, mentoring and support. You don’t need to look elsewhere for training in Trauma and Attachment; these are included in our mental health and anger units.

The Pivotal Train the Trainers 3-Year Programme and Fast Track Train the Trainers Courses are available for immediate booking.

How does the Pivotal Curriculum work?

  • You nominate one or more members of staff to be your Licensed Pivotal Instructors.
  • We train the Instructors over a two-day residential train the trainers course, every year for three years (3-year programme) or over one five-day train the trainers residential course (Fast Track programme).
  • Instructors deliver units of the Pivotal Curriculum to colleagues whenever required.
  • Instructors access continual support through e-mentoring with the Pivotal training team and access to online Instructor resources.
  • Your staff can also access Pivotal Curriculum units online.

The Pivotal Curriculum gives you a step-by-step process to follow. We tell you where to start and then how to develop practice and improve skills over time.  Pivotal programmes do not impose a rigid structure on you. Instead the Pivotal Curriculum enables you to create your own structure for behaviour, your own culture, your own values.

The flexibility of the programme means that you can deliver training over staff development days or in one-hour twilight sessions. You can train all staff together or work with smaller departmental teams.

What training can Licensed Instructors deliver?

The Pivotal Curriculum has been designed to be perfectly replicable.

You can complete the train the trainers programme over three years, by attending a 2 day course every year or you can attend our five-day ‘Fast Track’ course.

Level 1 Instructors are trained in how to deliver outstanding training sessions. They can run the following units as INSET.

Unit 1: Culture – “Consistency in practice: Adult mindset and adult behaviour”
Unit 2: Structure – “Exceptional classroom behaviour practice: Technical skills and knowledge”
Unit 3: Change – “Sanctions, rewards and restorative practice: Practical skills and techniques”
Unit 4: Anger – “Managing and modifying angry learners: Intervention tactics”
Unit 5: Safety – “Safeguarding learners: Level 2 equivalent”

At Level 2, Licensed Instructors are trained how to coach and mentor colleagues on a one-to-one basis to enable behaviour improvement across all learning spaces. They also get access to further training resources:

Unit 6: Mental Health – “Developing awareness of mental health: Practical guidance for adults in education”
Deep Dives 1 & 2 – Advanced training resources for individuals

Level 3 Instructors are given specialised training for developing whole college strategies for Inclusion. They are trained in how to run school research projects and are given additional training in wellbeing. They also get access to further training resources

Unit 7: Include – “Practical approaches to inclusion.”
Deep Dives 3 & 4 – Advanced training resources for individuals

NB: All units of the Pivotal Curriculum for Behaviour and Safety are also available as online training courses. Pivotal Curriculum schools can have a blended approach to the training – some delivered online, some delivered in live training sessions by the in-house Instructor.
